30-Year Teacher Carl Blankenhorn Announces Candidacy for Fountain Valley SD Board of Trustees

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — Longtime educator and community advocate Carl Blankenhorn today announced his candidacy for the Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees, pledging to put students first, support teachers, and ensure every child has access to a high-quality public education.

A math teacher with firsthand experience in the classroom, Blankenhorn said he is running because strong schools are built by listening to educators, partnering with families, and making decisions that prioritize student success over politics.

"Every student deserves the opportunity to thrive in a safe, supportive, and academically challenging environment," said Blankenhorn. "As a teacher, I saw both the incredible potential of our students and the challenges our schools face. I'm running to bring practical classroom experience to the school board and to make sure every decision is centered on what's best for kids."

If elected, Blankenhorn will focus on:

  • Putting students first by ensuring every child has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

  • Supporting teachers and staff through policies that help recruit, retain, and empower outstanding educators.

  • Maintaining safe, welcoming schools where every student can learn and every family feels valued.

  • Promoting academic excellence with a strong emphasis on math, literacy, science, technology, and career readiness.

  • Practicing responsible fiscal stewardship to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and transparently.

  • Strengthening partnerships with parents and the community through open communication and accountable leadership.

Blankenhorn said his experience in education gives him a unique perspective on the decisions facing the district.

"Our teachers and staff work incredibly hard every day, and our students deserve leaders who understand what happens inside the classroom," Blankenhorn said. "I want to help create an environment where educators have the support they need to do their best work and students have every opportunity to reach their full potential."

Throughout the campaign, Blankenhorn said he looks forward to meeting with parents, teachers, staff, and community members to hear their priorities and ideas for the future of Fountain Valley schools.

"For me, this campaign is about investing in our students and protecting the excellence of our public schools," Blankenhorn said. "Together, we can ensure Fountain Valley School District continues to be a place where every child can learn, grow, and succeed."
